FAQS

Do I need a prescription for my compounded medication? Our policy is that all compounds that we custom make for our patients must have a prescription. This helps maintain the team approach to patient care that we feel is so important. This team includes the patient, practitioner and compounding pharmacist. By working together, we can improve the health of our patients.

Where is Creative Compounds located and what are the hours of operation? We are located at 8560 SW Salish Lane, Suite 100 Wilsonville, OR 97070, just east of I-5 off the 286 exit. We are open Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 6:00pm and we are closed for lunch from 1 to 1:30pm. We do make after hours appointments for prescription pickup and patient consultations. See map

What is a compounding pharmacy? Creative Compounds is a pharmacy that specializes in compounded prescription medications custom made for each person's specific needs. Compounding is the age old art of pharmacy in which we use bulk drugs and chemicals to custom make prescriptions into special doses and dosage forms. See about us

Can I get a non-compounded (commercially manufactured) prescription filled at Creative Compounds? To offer the best service and expertise about your compounded prescription, we do not carry commercially available prescription medications. We suggest that you have your local pharmacy fill those prescriptions.

Are compounded prescriptions approved by the FDA? The bulk drugs and chemicals that we use to compound your prescription medications are all pharmaceutical grade (highest purity) and are only produced by FDA approved suppliers. Compounding pharmacies are governed by each state board of pharmacy.

Do you compound prescriptions for animals and for humans? We can compound almost anything a practitioner can ask for, both for animals and for humans.

If I am allergic to many fillers, cream bases, preservatives and dyes, can you compound my medication so that I won't be allergic to it? There are times when the medication is what causes the allergic reaction, but more often the base or filler will cause the patient to have an allergic reaction. We can offer different bases or fillers that are less likely to cause an allergic reaction. We can also offer "blank" fillers and bases for a patient to try before we compound the medication into them to insure that there will not be a reaction.

Do you bill my insurance? Insurance companies pay based on a manufacturers list price. Since there is no such list price for all the different possibilities that we can compound billing insurance companies is extremely difficult. We find that we can keep our prices lower by not dealing with insurance companies. We do offer assistance with filling out claim forms and can create a universal claim form for you to send to your insurance company.

How long does it take to get my prescription? We ask for 2 to 3 business days to custom compound your prescription. We do try to give priority to new prescriptions and certain urgently needed therapies such as antibiotics and those for hospice patients. For mailed out prescriptions we recommend planning on 2 to 3 additional days to receive your prescription.

Can I get my compounded prescription filled at any pharmacy? Creative Compounds specializes in compounding. We have equipment and expertise from special training courses necessary to create these prescriptions. Very few pharmacies have these tools or have trained their staff to make these compounds and counsel patients on the use of these compounds.
